Celebrating 60 Years
This week’s Throwback Thursday: Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Heater Road Medical Office Building in Lebanon, NH!
Completed in 2013, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Heater Road is home to services previously within the DHMC main campus and Buck Road facility. These services include Dermatology, Family Medicine, Functional Restoration Program and Sleep Disorders Center.
Fitzemeyer & Tocci provided full HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical engineering design services for the construction of a three-story outpatient medical building in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Included in this effort was energy analysis of multiple building systems for optimal energy efficiency.
Our Design Solution
A challenge associated with this project was that the new facility was required to fit within an existing development footprint and building envelope limit. Program space had to be maximized to the fullest extent while allowing for highly maintainable and efficient infrastructure systems. Building systems also needed maximum flexibility for the ever-changing uses of outpatient medical facilities.
To successfully address and solve this challenge, HVAC systems included two identical, dual-tunnel custom rooftop air handler sets that provided approximately 120,000 CFM of air to the facility through only four optimized supply/return air shafts. The air handlers were connected through a rooftop service corridor that enabled interior access without building program space use. Compact, high-efficiency condensing hot water boilers and two main building heater water pumps supply the entire facility through efficient variable volume controls. A custom, modular, rooftop chiller plant assembly houses two high-efficiency water chillers. The modular construction chiller plant was removed from within the building program space and moved to a rooftop assembly to further increase healthcare program space.
