Senior Mechanical Designer

1.5 Years with F&T

Carla Reyes, a Senior Mechanical Designer at Fitzemeyer & Tocci, has made significant contributions since joining the team full-time after completing two co-op opportunities with F&T and graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Carla excels in providing precise project work, utilizing her education, intelligence, and practical skills to solve engineering challenges. Her role involves performing and documenting mechanical engineering calculations, conducting research on design options and catalogued terminal equipment, conducting field surveys, and using BIM/CAD applications for various engineering tasks. Carla's successful work on multiple mechanical engineering projects highlights her indispensable value to the F&T team. This summer, she will embark on the journey to mentor co-ops — coming full circle and sharing her knowledge and experience to help guide and support the next generation of engineers.

Q&A

What inspired you to join our team, and what has been your journey so far?

What inspired me to join the team was that I really enjoyed both of my co-op opportunities here, especially because of the strong mentorship. The team pairs you with both junior and senior engineers, allowing you to learn from both perspectives. As a full-time senior mechanical designer now, I still experience that same supportive environment, which has been great for my professional growth.

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your job?

It’s incredibly rewarding to see a project come together, especially walking through the final punch list and seeing all the work completed. Knowing that your contributions played a role in that success is fulfilling. I also enjoy the problem-solving aspect—every challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn something new.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and recently, I’ve gotten into making sourdough bread. It's been a fun hobby, and I’m excited to experiment with different recipes using my starter.
