In collaboration with Siemens and Fanning Associates Air Balancing, the team at Fitzemeyer & Tocci just completed the transformation of two negative pressure wards for the treatment of COVID-19 patients at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. Within just a few days, the initial idea received from the hospital was developed and implemented into an effective solution that will be a critical necessity for those battling COVID-19 on the front lines. The project included converting the existing HVAC Systems to 100% outside air (once through) to eliminate the risk of recirculated contaminated air, revising the system controls by re-writing its code, and rebalancing the air distribution components (with the help of our partners at the hospital) to develop stable and effective negative pressure wards to reduce potential transmission of the virus to the remainder of the hospital. We’re grateful we can assist our hospitals with this important effort during this challenging time.
