Completed in March 2020, St. Luke’s Hospital’s new $14-million Intensive Care Unit provides 16 new beds to the hospital’s existing ICU capacity. Southcoast Health’s intent was to provide an optimal experience to patients, families, and providers, while working to achieve a designation as a Level II Trauma Center. The end result was 16 new, private universal rooms with an advanced video system for monitoring and safe patient-nurse communication, as well as increased support space and transitional screening windows for privacy. Circadian rhythm lighting was implemented to further enhance the healing environment as well as help maintain the well-being of the caregivers.
